Michael's long and wild travel log
Michael had been living in the Coxsackie Correctional Facility, awaiting his time to request a transfer, and as he was told, he'd be going to a Medium Facility when he left.
Coxsackie was a different sort of Prison, not run as others he experienced. It was a more Military type, like the old "Auburn System" which is how Auburn Correctional ran when it first opened and for many years. At Coxsackie, silence was not enforced 24 hours a day of course as it was in the early "Auburn System days," but standing for count, waiting in line, walking in line, and just about everywhere except for the yard all inmates were required to be silent, look ahead, and follow orders. Any diversion from this would get you taken out of line, searched, handcuffed, yelled at, and most likely given a "ticket." The weird thing I learned about getting a ticket is that it costs the inmate $5.00 even if found innocent! Kind of like the Cops giving us speeding tickets, either way they'll get some money!A "ticket" is getting in trouble. Depending on how serious your misbehavior is, you may be able to continue on with your routine, be "Keeplocked" in your Cell, or taken to "The Box." Some call it "The Hole" or "The SHU" but in either of them all you have is the clothes on your back, a cot, sink, and toilet. In most NY Prisons if you were in a fight, you were taken to "
The Box," but in Coxsackie, just being disrespectful to a C.O. could get you sent there!
To be continued....
