Who am I and why am I writing a Michael Alig Blog?

     





I'm a real friend of Michael Alig that goes by the name "Lovepurple"

                                                


I have been using the user name “Lovepurple” on the web for years, and have been (and still am) a Staff member on Michael’s Proboards site (http://michaelaligs.proboards49.com/) run by another friend of Michael Alig. That Board is also kept current; I believe it’s the only real and current Board.

 

I consider myself a friend of Michael’s but I never was a Club Kid. Most people that are his friends now did not know him during that time, but got interested in him when the movie, book, and documentaries came out. I had never contacted a stranger in the media before, but something about him made me want to get to know him, and especially find out where he was and how he was doing now!

 I have a work and study history of Criminal Justice, Mental Illness, and working with those in Recovery so Michael’s problems and issues are interesting to me, as they are interesting to many people just based on the number of Documentary Prison Shows on TV now.

 I have become close to Michael, and the first time I did visit him he was in the Elmira Prison. We started writing letters, then talking on the phone, and when he was transferred to Coxsackie I was able to visit him much more often.

 I do provide emotional support to Michael, and some financial by means of food. I make sure that he gets his allotment of food that he’s legally allowed to be brought or mailed into prison. One thing I want to make perfectly clear, Michael never has asked me for money or gifts! He will never ask, and he never wants his friends to ask for anything for him. He is lucky to have enough friends to take care of his needs, and in prison, well what can I say, it costs an inmate a lot of money to live comfortable!


 Michael has a combination of friends from before prison, and some from after he became famous from the movie that sends him gifts. He’s a painter, so all those materials have to be ordered by someone on the outside! The prison system does make it very hard to send and bring packages in, even when you follow their rules, so I help with finding out where to order things.

 I do consider Michael a friend of mine, which means I don’t write about everything we talk about, as some things are personal! You never know what I may say though, as I have a very open mind and will not censor everything out!

    Hi purple. I'm so glad Michael Alig has a friend that really cares about him the way you do. I registered for an account on your message board. How long does it take for an aproval? Are there pictures of Michael and the club kids there? I would like to send him a letter and be a friend for him. I know he needs a lot of love right now.

      I know how you feel about making a true friend! You can send Michael a check or Money order, make sure his name and Din# are on it, along with your name. Right now he can only receive money, books, and magazines. For books he likes true crime.

      Do you write to Michael? You should with having a lot in common. Michael has a lot of his own memorabilia, so maybe he'll be selling it in the future, but I've never asked him that. You could always send him a picture of something you'd like to buy and ask him if it's real.

      When he's released he'll have an art show and will be selling his paintings, so you'll have a chance to buy his artwork!
