Michael Alig eligible for Medium Security
Michael would
like to go to Fishkill, as they have a Commercial Art program there. Being
closer to NYC also would be a plus, as it would be much easier for his friends
to visit him there. Of course there has to be an opening in Fishkill, so
Michael could first end up anywhere in NY, as there are around 33 Male Medium
Security Prisons in NY State! If he does end up at another Medium Security that
he doesn't want to be at, he has to be there for 6 months before requesting to
go to Fishkill.
Michael really
needs to get out of Coxsackie, as there are no programs or jobs for him there,
and he needs to keep his mind busy! He continues to work on the edited pages of
his book, and he plans on making more paintings!

Does anybody know what happened with Freez after his release? Are there any pics of him? What is he doing now?

I had heard through others a while back that he wanted to be with his elderly parents out of state when released. I don't know what happened when he actually was released.

Well that's good new, pending Albany's decision of course. Could he just wait until Dec. 22 so that he can choose to be at Fishkill or does have to put in a request now?

From what he told me, it sounded as the request went in because he was eligible. Plus, when he does request Fishkill, he'll be sent to where there's an opening and will wait there to go to Fishkill. I think Fishkill is popular, so it may have a waiting list. This whole process has many rules, and lots of waiting time. He really needs to be at a prison where he can keep busy. Most Medium's keep them busy all the time!

Hi im dejanna. I just wanted to say that i am a really big supporter of michael. I have read so much on him and his story. Watched the movies and all too. I have been looking absolutely everywhere for his mailing adress. Or just some way to contact him and give him my support. Im really very happy that i have found this blog and will definitely be checking up on it now that ive found it. Ill also write him in the mail! I really would love to hear back from him also! that would be great. I think this blog for him is amazing and shows that their really is hope and good people who can be their for their loved ones. Well i just wanted to say that! im excited to write to him and give him my best wishes. I'm glad also that you found my blog, as you are the type of person I do it for! I was so tired of the drama of the boards when all I wanted to do was provide current updates that were real! Michael really needs encouraging letters now, so please write to him at the Coxsackie address. If he is transferred I always will report his new address here.

I just came across this blog and very excited that I did! I can't explain it but I have felt very drawn to Michael for many years. I have followed his story for a long time now and have always wanted to contact him somehow to show support. I have never known how to get a hold of him and never really knew if I SHOULD send him a letter. Just this weekend I felt inclined to try and locate info on him online and that is how I stumbled across your blog. I have always felt everything happens for a reason and I think now must be the right time to write him a letter. I just wanted to thank you for posting his mailing address and updates on your blog. I look forward to getting my first letter out and hope that it helps him in some small way. I know he probably gets all kinds of mail from all over the country, so my letter will be just another in the pile. But if it helps and encourages him in just a small way, I will be happy for that.

Patrick - Don't worry about your letter getting lost in a pile of mail. Michael is very dedicated to his supporters and he will, sincerely, write you back. I loves to hear from people who are backing him up! Any encouragement and positive thoughts that you send him are so huge for him right now.

Thank you Melissa! Actually you need to be praised for supporting Michael! You came from far away to visit him, and continue to support and encourage him. It's sad that some people do drift off, especially when Michael has made a special connection with them, but that happens in life. He does answer his letters, but has limited stamps so sometimes he has to wait to buy more. I hate to write this, but I hope that people who do write enclose stamp money as Michael receives more than the normal amount of letters and the cost adds up! He doesn't have a job, so he relies on all of us to keep him in stamp money! One dollar sent is enough for 2 stamps, so I don't think it's a burdon on us on the outside to slip a dollar in every other letter that we send to him!

I know you said five pieces of paper can be included in one envelope. I will be happy to send him some stamp money, it's not a lot to ask. Does money count as sheets of paper? I just want to make sure I send everything the right way so he will for sure get it

Patrick, you are smart to ask that question, as the prison has sooooo many rules, and they seem to change them often! No, money doesn't count as one of the 5 pages. Sometimes it feels as if I'm in prison because of the amount of rules that we have to deal with to communicate with Michael. I know the rules for sending things in pretty well, but I sometimes have problems also.
Michael needs to keep busy, so write away!

i have a question! i never really send letters to anyone so im kind of new at it and im not sure how to write the address on the letter to make sure it gets sent properly! is it to be written out in this order?

OH also one more question kind of dumb question. But i wrote my letter to michael in pink. I understand at some places they dont allow any colord writing besides black or blue! but im not sure how this place is? any advice? thanks so much <3

There's never any dumb questions! I print my letters to him in purple type, so you can write to him in pink as I've never seen a rule about that.

Hi, lovepurple, again I want to thank you so much for this site and all of your updates.
I just want to make sure again what we are allowed to send to Michael, because the whole thing is confusing to me.
We're allowed to send FIVE pages... and must they all be written by US? What are the rules about pictures and media?

The rules are a pain so it's good that you ask. The 5 pages means 5 pieces of paper. It can be your letter, a newspaper article, anything printed from the internet. You can't send someone else's letter, meaning someone asks you to include what they wrote to Michael in your envelope.
Pictures are allowed, but no nudity, and no gang signs and/or colors. I send a lot of pictures! I also send him all internet articles that mention him. If you see something online he may like, or something you're into that you want to tell him about, those are good to send.
If something is not allowed, they just won't give it to him. Sometimes they send it back with a letter saying what you did wrong.
