Michael Alig makes his first calls from Franklin
Michael called this morning from his new home at the Franklin Correctional Facility in Malone, NY. He doesn't have too much information yet, as with the Holidays around the corner he won't have orientation until after them. For now he's been told to "ask the inmates" when he has a question for the CO's.
Visiting is on weekends, usually one of the days (he doesn't have his schedule yet) but the rule is if the visitor is traveling 750 miles or more (based on their address on their photo ID) to Malone, with prior approval, they can visit for Sat & Sun. So all you cross country visitors (and there are several!) please call the prison for approval once you find out from me that no one else plans on visiting for the weekend you want.
Michael feels very bad about some of his mail he received the 2 days he was locked up awaiting the move, as the policy was that he could read the mail he got, but had to throw it out! He does remember a sweet letter from a female in Alaska, and a few other nice letters but there's no way he can write back. So, if you don't receive a reply and you mailed it between 12/9 - 12/15, please don't be offended! He hopes you can re-send your card/letter to him as he wants to respond to everyone!
Those who didn't receive a Christmas card, you may or may not get one as he had not received his order of cards before he was moved. If they do arrive, he can't buy stamps for 2 weeks so all mail from him will be delayed. He also has no paper, but will be able to get some soon (no need to send him any)
The Corrections Dept now has a rule on the amount of property he was allowed to take with him, so he was forced to throw many things away. His life is disorganized right now, but once he gets into his permanent housing and is able to buy stamps he'll be back on track with communicating with his friends, old and new!

I'm sad & happy all at the same time. Sad b/c some of his stuff had to get thrown out, but moreso happy that he is going to be in a much better place than Coxsackie (from my understanding).
Thanks always for the updates!! I sincerly hope that Michael will be happier where he's at now.

He is so much happier already! Another friend and I are making sure his xmas will be great by providing special food and gifts that he'll have on xmas day to share with his new friends.

Aw, that is so incredibly sweet of you! I have Christmas stuff for him that I was going to bring to my visit, but I'll hold on to it for now until I find out when I can see him in Franklin. Of course, I sent him a nice Christmas card and such.
I am so elated to hear that he is happier.

I just wanna say I can't believe that they would release freeze and not Michael. I know the're trying to punish him more harshly because they dont approve of the fame and notoriety he has gotten from this case. They were convicted of the same crime right! So why is Michael being more unfairly treated I think the state is trying to make an unfair example of him as they can release one but not the other.

I have been angry all along about this, but Michael did mess up so no way could have gotten out when Freeze did. There was no reason why he was not released last month. It's like a power game in Albany! 99.9% of inmates who are approved to leave by the prison super are approved by Albany, Michael was the .1% that was not! It's a waste of taxpayer money for him to be in there still.

Awww... Michael! I hope he's doing well and that those who've sent him letters don't get upset if it takes him awhile to reply!
Also, I hope those who send him letters (like me!) do so to let him know that people care, and not that we need letters in return.

I couldn't agree more Miss Lovepurple! I can't even come up with the right words to express how angry and sad I am.
