Michael Alig fitting in at Franklin Correctional

It took about a week of being in his new Dorm, but Michael has slowly started to get to know and be comfortable with his new Dorm-mates. At first he thought he wouldn't since he was placed with mostly young men in their early 20's, but he soon learned he had something in common, food! I thought people in prison were creative with their food with only a hot pot to cook with, but give them a stove and a fridge and that just gives them more ways to be creative. Michael shares his ingredients, and in return gets a large plate of very good food! I've always enjoyed shopping for him, even with the strict restrictions placed by the Dept. of Corrections I have always tried to find different items that would make it in to give him variety. Now, these creative guys that are with Michael are also so happy to see food items that they have not seen in years, if at all! I'm just happy to help make his life seem more "normal" while he's in there.

Michael had another visit yesterday by his Documentary film crew, as they were there with video cameras, and this was Michael's first experience with HD cameras. This has been in place to be with him now on the outside, but since he was not released they decided to start now while he's still inside. I'm not going to reveal too much (I don't know everything they'll be doing) but the things they have planned sound quite exciting! That now adds another thing to anticipate with Michael's release! There are regular media requests for Michael, so the world is still interested!

oh people are interested. I mean if I can't get the money to visit the last I can't have is an updated video interveiw .

things have been going on in my life that have made it really hard for me to do anything. Once things start turning around (which is very very soon) I'm gonna write him a long long letter about what's been up with me and why I so clearly and interested in him.

    tell him he is loved.

    love from the west coast-chelsea

Luckily people do write so he knows people care. Deal with your life first, then write to him when you can.

He has been writing to people overseas, but it does cost more, so please keep that in consideration. If you send him postage money, it has to be in USA funds. You should write! At the moment while he shares a cubicle, he hand writes his letters so they're not as long. Once he gets his own cubicle, he'll have room to be able to take out his typewriter and write as much as he wants!

I think you should send it! Why would you be bothering him? I think a lot of people struggle with sending that 1st letter, but Michael enjoys getting letters and you just never know, you could get a good friend out of it! He doesn't ask, but it's best to send money just to cover the cost of him sending you back a letter, so like a dollar every other letter you send him should be the minimum.

I've never written Michael, but have thought about it the past 4 months. I relate a LOT to him. All he wanted was to love and be loved, and without it, you fill it with drugs. I've been through that myself, but have finally gotten away from them. I know he gets 100s of letters a week, I would like to correspond with him to try and help him in any way I could...would it be worth writing? I know he's got a lot of attention. I thought about sending stamps with the letter, but not sure if he can accept those. I don't know much about the institutional system. I will send money if he needs it. I think he's a good guy that just got caught up in the wrong stuff. It happens to the best of us. When you want love, you'll try anything to find it, and drugs will mess up your mind to where you aren't yourself anymore, and you make bad decisions.

Many people wonder for months, just as you're doing, but they end up very happy when they finally decide to write! One letter won't make you best buddies, but if you do click and keep writing each other you will discover what Michael is really like. He's still Michael, without the drugs!

Stamps can't be mailed in, but you can send him the money to buy stamps. In reality, he couldn't buy any stamps unless people sent him the money for them, but he will not ask, and won't let me ask. I just suggest!

Tell him what you wrote here, then tell him about you! One thing though, be honest!

I never knew who Michael Alig was until the movie Party Monster. Ever since the first time I watched it..I researched him and I feel like I have a connection with him. We are similar in multiple ways. I would love to write to him but I don't want it to be weird because I am a stranger. Do you think it is okay for a stranger to write to him? Thank you.

You would not believe how many "strangers" write to him! That's the only way to meet new friends for him. He has many long term and new friends from people like you that connected from seeing the movie. Please write him!

Let me add for all, you must put your full name and return address on the envelope, or he won't get it!  It's the prison rule, not his.

Where can I send money for Michael? Can I send cash or does it have to be a money order? Can I send cash with the letter? My dad was once in oprison years ago and I had to send a money order to a different address. Please help because I don't want the prison to take his money out of the envelope.

It's better to send a money order. It needs to have his name and DIN #, along with your full name and address on the money order. It should be sent to his address, it's not a different one. Save your money order receipt until you know he has received it so that you'll have proof if it "disappears."

Ive always (it appears I AM NOT ALONE!!)felt a strange fascination with Michael Alig, it was watching the original 'Party Monster'(Documentary) which I felt gave a better picture of the man behind 'the hype'. Was just doing a Google search (to think he has never done, or SEEN a google search is almost too much to fathom in this one click away world we now live in)to see if he had finally been released and was saddened to see he's still in the system, but VERY GLAD to hear he's sober, on proper meds and is looking forward to his forthcoming release. I(again, much like others) have a similar background of coming from a broken home, lots of drug use in days gone by, but, almost 25 and got 5 years of sobriety. I always felt like he, just like a lot of us, simply has demons and when the drugs make those go away... and.. ummm HELLO NEW FRIENDS, but the 'friendship' turns sour rather quickly!!! Hell even if he doesnt write back I know what a simple honest letter can do to uplift your spirits by hearing about someone else's life, at rehab mail call was like food, drugs, and sex all in one!! It's all you can get, and becomes a lifeline, something to look forward to. I think I'm gonna write him just to let him know that there are a lot of people hoping he gets his second chance sooner rather than later, and a little money order for stamps and stationary and such. I'm not gay, was never into the 'club scene', yet I feel a commonality. I remember my New Yorker grandmother telling me the story of what happened, how SHE perceived the situation and the feeling when I first watched the documentary and just kept thinking how lucky I was to have gotten out 'unscathed', how ONE MISTAKE, can ruin multiple lives... Plus his wit just seems razor sharp!!! Hope he keeps his spirits up! To think I just happened to buy that documentary on a whim at the pawn shop like 9 years ago. Best wishes from Texas!!
