Michael has a Lawyer

For the first time I feel hopeful that Justice may come around for Michael! Someone who Michael did know from the "Old Days" is a Lawyer, and has agreed to help Michael with his current situation. She has already filed some paperwork, and plans on meeting with him soon.

I have seen the paperwork from his Hearing, and the appeal that he has already filed, and I just can't believe what a Kangaroo Court a NYDOC Hearing is! They allow in what they want, and ignored the fact that Michael had evidence, (the extortion note) packed up by the C.O's because they threw him in the Hole! Hopefully with a Lawyer, Michael will win his appeal and be released from the Box.

oh how wonderful it would be if his lady lawyer friend could get him out of that God forsaken box!
it's just horrible that they could completely dismiss the evidence Michael had. Michael seems like he'd be one of the easiest people to help cuz he's so friendly.
too bad it's gotten him where he is in this whole mess, but karma might come back to him. <3

prayin for him all the time

I am so happy and relieved to hear this.
I know that prison courts do not offer the same justice as civilian courts, but in this case, dismissing the most obvious form of evidence, is just absurd! I don't care if you are a convicted felon; everybody deserves a fair chance! Sadly enough, in my heart, I know that the judge knew that Michael was not guilty of this. It's the corrupt system that is continually bringing him down. I am hopeful that having a lawyer on his side will get him out of this fiasco.

Musto, citing an unnamed source (yay, third-hand, unsourced, gossip!) at the Museum of Arts and Design where Michael was scheduled appear (via satellite) on a panel last night says that DOC has "cut off all his contact with the outside world until he has a hearing."

Anyone know if this is true or not?

If Michael was out, (he was hoping for Oct 2010) he would have been there. No way in Hell the prison would have let him be there via Satellite! That was never true, as they probably made that up to make people think he'd still be a part of it since they were using Michael's name in all the Ads.

Does Michael have a plan for when he gets out? Does he know where he will live and how he will support himself?

Michael will live with a friend in NYC. He has many options for work, but right away he has so many paintings he's done so he'll need to do a showing. His book will be published after he comes out. The Documentary crew will be following him (they already started interviews) so he'll be working with that. Michael is a very creative and has lots of exciting ideas he wants to try out, so we'll have to wait and see which ones are sucessful!

this is so very common in the prison system. i had a friend i grew up with had his cousin in jail for 7 years and once inmates knew he was getting out, they got him into trouble and he got out much later! he did a total of 9 years instead of 7. he had to pay to get inmates to leave him alone. it's all too common.
