Thanks for the info Lovepurple! Althought I hate to see him in a place like Southport...it will be MUCH easier for me to get there than Malone was. I'm planning on visiting over Labor Day in September. Until then, lots of encouraging letters and his fave magazines.

Aw, I was hoping he wouldn't end up back at southport. I read that's the prison with the crazy bodily fluid throwing prisoners. Do you know if he was transferred today or yesterday? I'm just curious if the letter I sent out Monday would've have the chance to get to him. Either way, I'll send out another in a few days to southport.

Not sure of the exact day! Yes, they throw the body fluids there as Michael told a few stories about that last time.

I'm really sorry he is back at southport. Is he holding up okay?
At least he knows that people on the outside are rooting for him and will have things to look forward to in the future.

We have no info on him as he just got there, and the prison found a way to keep his Lawyer out today. If he has stamps I'll get a letter soon and update everyone, but he used the last of what he had in Franklin.

Am I right in thinking that even in the hole he is allowed to buy stamps provided he has money in his account?
Also, I sent a letter to Franklin on 3/14 (according to USPS it should have gotten there 2 days later). Anybody want to guess what the odds he actually got it (either before being transfered or forwarded) are?

He can buy a certain amount of stamps, less I believe than in a regular prison.
Give Michael time before you ask him if he got that letter, but it would be best to send him another one to Southport. He does write down who he gets letters from, so he will be able to tell you if it arrived.
Franklin was not very good with mail, so I wouldn't count on them forwarding letters.

Thanks, It's really nice that you share everything with us, you seem like a great friend to him.
As far as the lawyer, she seems very determined to get in there and will find a way!

What are the guidelines for sending Michael letters, cards, pics or packages now? I've been searching the net, but can't find any info for Southport guidelines. From what I can gather, Southport is a lot more strict than Franklin.

He can have letters, cards and pictures. Only 5 pages per envelope. No packages at all.
Southport is the Hole, they are treated like animals. Yes, much more strict than Franklin.

Thanks for the info!!! What is the deal with postage now? I'm not sure if we should include a stamp (not sure if he can have more) or if it's better to include a money order to help out with correspondence incidentals.

You still can't mail him actual stamps, but you can send him a money order. I know it seems weird to buy a money order with a value of just a couple of dollars, but he does want to reply to everyone, and I know it takes money in his account for him to purchase the stamps from the prison commissary!
I suggest sending a money order or a check, cash is not preferred at the prisons.

I send a letter out to michael this morning - the lady at the post office put a '#' THROUGH the return address- she said its incase they deliver it back to me (which is dull)
will the prison reject it because it looks 'crossed out'?
Reply to this
That seems weird, but as long as the prison can read your return address it should get in.

So is michael getting out soon?? Whats going on with him being moved?Whens the earliest he will be released?thanks for all the info, and we all hope michael is doing well!!

He was moved because someone set him up, and he got into trouble. Michael wrote what happend and you can read it on this blog. If he wins his appeal he may still get out this November, but if he doesn't, he may get out in May 2012.

WOW!! I hate the idea of him there, especially for something he didn't do. I hope the lawyer can help him. I sent my last letter along with postage to Franklin, but I will get him another letter out to him this week. Love you lots Michael!!!

I am glad to see a forum like is is available for those interested in his past, present and future. I think I will write him...

I wrote to Michael, and I expressed my sorrow at his situation, but I also tried to bring up light-hearted topics because I thought it would be nice... I hope he doesn't take that as insulting.

Please, write things to cheer him up, get his mind off of that nasty place! He won't be insulted.

Love you Lovepurple, let's help Michael get out of there. He made a few bad mistakes, and people need to help him recover.

No kidding the guy has a Drug abuse problem? He's being treated horribly and it's so sad.

The issue is, he didn't do anything wrong! Even if people don't believe that, you can believe as I have the paperwork that says his urine test was clean! He has remained drug free since April 1 st. 2009, and that is the best he's ever done! I used to worry about him for when he gets out, I no longer do.

I will double-confirm that Michael did not do anything wrong. I just happened to plan my visit when this whole fiasco was happening. If you could see the look in his eyes when he was telling me this awful story, you'd know for a fact he is not fabricating this. He wants to be home more than anything. Understandably. He expresses this in every letter that he writes me. Michael is a genuine person - he would never in a million years ruin his chances of coming home sooner rather than later. This was a cruel cruel thing that was set up on Michael. Letters of encouragement are really helping him get through this!!
