Michael's Birthday is coming!
Michael's situation is very depressing for him, but something can make it worse, like if we forget to send him a Birthday Card! His big day is 4/29!
Michael is very sensitive, and although he may not admit it, It hurts when someone forgets!
He's trying very hard to write back to everyone, but just doesn't have the recources to do so. He tells me in every letter how bad this makes him feel!
So go out and make or buy the best card you can for the Birthday boy, as you will keep him smiling all day long!

Hey, in the letter I got today, Michael said we're all so worried about sending duplicate magazines, that in the end he's not receiving any. I have the past three issues of Vanity Fair here at home and this month's People that I'm going to go ahead and get sent out to him today, if that's cool.

Go ahead and send and thanks for posting it! I have been picking up magazines and sending them just so he has something. People can send used books and magazines, they can be mailed from home, you don't have to order new ones online and have them sent directly to Michael. For some people that may be easier and that's still fine to do!

couple of questions - does a card count as one of the 5 pages? and can we send photo's? (nothing violent or pornographic or anything like that)
and does just one photo count to a page too?

I know this is off-topic but I figure people here might want to see it so I'm posting it anyway. With all the negative comments, rumors, etc about Michael floating around it is nice to see him actually get some good press. Black Book's Steve Lewis has reprinted Michael's open letter which was posted here last month along with the following:

Without permission to post Steve's blog, I will just post the link here for those who want to read it. Steve is wrong though when he comments that Michael will be in Southport until he's released from prison. If Michael doesn't win his appeal (which he hopes to) he will have to do the 6 month drug program after Southport which will be in whichever Max prison Michael is sent to.
I won't predict if March is possible for being released until we see if Michael wins his appeal.

He can only receive books and magazines, or a money order. Right now I have tons of magazines that Franklin Correctional never gave to him, so he doesn't need any for a few months. The thing he really would love the most is a card from EVERYONE OUT HERE !!!!!

I'm sorry if I made it seem like he can only have money orders, but yes, he can have checks! They take time to clear, but thay are allowed and Michael appreciates them!
I have to wait like everyone else for a letter to find out about his Birthday! He can't make phone calls in there. I really hope this will be a record year for him receiving cards, as they have been dropping. I seem to do that in life especially if I talk to that friend all the time, but it's different when someone's in prison, as it show's who cares enough to actually go out and get (or make) a card for him.

Thanks for the insight. My apologies...I failed to realize that he cannot make calls. It has been a while since I've gotten a response BUT I'm undaunted, I know he has a LOT of people he is writing SO I will get another letter out this week. If I was in his situation, I'd love the letters and cards.

He usually has a pile of letters ready to go out, just waiting for when he can get stamps! There's a few people that get regular letters like his mom and myself, but I also write to him 3x a week to keep up with everything, meaning his questions and mine. I hate writing letters, it's easier to have him call, but in the bad place he's in it's the least I can do.

No, stamps and envelopes are considered "Contraband" in prison if it comes through the mail or a visit. They must be bought at the prison by Michael with his account, which gets money from family and friends.

You can send books, magazines, money orders, checks. He doesn't ask for money, but I know it helps as he doesn't have a job! All checks and money orders must be in US funds and have your name and address on it, as well has Michael's name and DIN#.
