Michael's Magazine List

To avoid duplicate magazines and books being sent to Michael (that wastes YOUR money) I'll keep an ongoing list here. Please email me at comments@michaelaligblog.com to let me know the name and date of the magazine (s) you sent and I'll post them here. When buying him new magazines, (or sending used ones) just check the list to see if someone has already sent that one.

These are subscriptions that he gets, so he never needs these:

Vanity Fair
New Yorker
NY Post (newspaper)
*******************************************************************
Magazines and books received in April;

Please email me names!

    Bummer.

I tried to send him alcohol-free facial cream and they sent it back to me. I wish I would send him something new and exciting

I really wish everyone would ask before sending items to Michael, as he has to pay for the return postage. He's in the Hole, he's not allowed any packages. Magazines and books luckily are something they can't take away from him, so we can at least send him gifts that way, for now.

I know it's great to send him new things, but the Prison's rules are a pain in the ass so very often what we would like him to have, there's no way it will get in. He is always so happy to receive what is allowed in, as he knows it takes a lot of effort on our part to find him what he likes, and that it also complies with all the prison rules.

is it only mag's and books he's allowed
no soaps, lotions, anything of the kind at all?
it's terrible I can imagine how terrible things are in there - i heard he cant shower everyday?
I wanted to send like a gift set in there?
do you think they will allow somethings in there - surely the guards must see how terrible his situation is and allow some things like that..?

Even the "nicer" NY prisons will NOT let anything in that's not allowed. Sometimes a label is not read closely enough and something will get in, but at Southport they have lost their package privilages, so no exceptions. Books and magazines are not considered a "package."

No, they don't shower every day! I don't understand why that's punishment! I think it's a health issue not to let them, plus when they do shower it's cold water! Michael loves lotions and soaps, as he loves to be clean and smell good, so not having them is hard. He will admit that not being allowed food packages is the worst thing about being there as the food sucks and he's hungry all the time

You really should wipe getting him lotions out of your mind anyway, (for when he's out of Southport) as it's so hard to get anything in! Even the best people (friends and his mom) that spend a lot of time searching online, stores, and reading every label still have items rejected. It's so nice that you want to send him something, but it's also very frustrating for all so it's best to stick to the rules.

Without all the mail, books, magazines and newspapers that all his friends and family send him he would be losing it! To stay sane in there they must keep their minds busy!

I'm an art student, and I love Michael, but I drew a portrait of him that I'm hoping to give him when he gets out but for now I was hoping to send a small 5 x 7 photo to him. Should this be separate from my letter like the magazines are?

You can send photo's with a letter, as I do it all the time. That's so nice of you to draw a portrait for him!
