Michael Alig still surviving in prison
Even though there's not much going on with Michael now since he's without a phone, I must say that the people out here have not forgotten him! I asked for encouraging letters, you wrote them! I suggested sending books and magazines, he's receiving them. Sometimes my life gets difficult and I can't devote as much time to Michael, so I'm very glad he has lots of friends out here to fill in!

I'm new so excuse any repeat of info, but is it OK to send a card that has lights and music in it or a recorded voice ? And I read elsewhere on this site about 5 pages being the max, so I assume this means if we write him a letter it has to be 5 pieces of paper or less ?

No fancy cards! It probably contains parts that are not allowed. 5 pages is 5 pieces of paper. Many rules at these places, and to break them means Michael doesn't get the letter.

You're the best, lp. I'm confident that between Mike's strength and your always rallying support, Mike will at last get out and still be sane and flourish.
But I have to say, the conditions in SHU are so far beyond cruel and unusual that I am constantly appalled.
Please take good good care of yourself. You certainly deserve it!

Thank you! I try, but imagine how bad this all gets to me, and how bad it is for Michael who's living there! I believe that the amount of time inmates are given in "The Hole" is inhumane! I've watched all the prison shows from many different States and foreign countries, and besides CA. NY is the worst! The worst part is, this time Michael was set up. But even if he was guilty, having one Joint, while testing negative for drugs, shouldn't warrant a punishment of 18 months in the Hole! There are people in there right now who have stabbed people and received less time than Michael. It really makes you think!

No, not yet. Usually everyone in the Hole gets a time cut, so you have a meeting or hearing. Michael has not had one yet, so he doesn't have a date to get out of there. He has heard that the person in charge doesn't give automatic time cuts so he's worried. Usually you only do 2/3's of what they give you, and that's always taken off, but he has heard that the guys that have gone have not gotten any time off. They could be lying, or maybe they did something wrong while in there, he doesn't know.
That's another reason to try to keep him positive, as nothing in there is, only the letters that come from the outside.
