I had a great visit with Michael and he did start the drug program and today was the first day! He was very cordial and answered all my questions and I told him how many of us support him and I had an official hug from Michael and now we really need to pull together and send him positive letters and visits.

I hope whoever sees it first will let us all know! If I see it I will certainly let you know. You have stuck with him and supported him with letters when he needed it the most!

The editor emailed me and asked for permission to call me to ask questions and I gave the OK, but they have yet to call so I doubt that will happen. They may have gotten enough info from Michael for the story.

Lovepurple
Michael has no say in attending the drug program, as it's mandatory after a dirty urine. It didn't make sense that he went to "the Hole" for 8 months with no help for his addiction, as that would have been when he needed it. Now since he's waiting to start the drug program, his date to leave prison gets pushed back because he must complete the program first.

The thing about prison, is it's harder to stay away from drugs because they're everywhere! It's big business in there, and Michael is constantly approached. Even when he tries to do right, there are many people needing to make money in there, and they know who the addicts are. At least he's getting practice saying no, so when he gets out he can continue saying no.

Parole will still require him to be in a program when he's released. Michael has had no chance of being a recovering drug addict while in prison. I feel the programs should be shoved down every addicts throat in prison, especially if their crime was violent because of drugs. They are a captive audience in there, why not sit them down at meetings and make them stay? If Michael didn't commit that horrible crime, probably by now (if he was not dead) he would have some years of being clean, and would be totally immersed into the NA lifestyle.

Lovepurple
I was lucky to go to the Lime during Michaels reign and the atmosphere he helped cultivate was amazing. Now here is my comment. After so many years of doing hard time, do the narcotics still have such a hold on him that he needs a drug program ? Is this tactically a wise move for him ? Wont the parole board hold the same view of needing a Narcotics program after such a long period of incarceration as a sign that his true nature has changed very little ?
